This year (2026) I’ve decided to dive into testing AI tools headfirst. Specifically, I want to try out and test the various features that each specific platform offers and how they differ from each other, so I know what tool I should reach for when I have a specific need. While I’ve been paying for ChatGPT and Gemini for a while now, I recently added Claude to the roster to help me create stuff. One thing I told myself was if I was going to build things I needed to build in public so it motivated me to finish things.
I recently came across a Devpost Hackathon that was called Build with AI: Basics. This hackathon provided you with a skill (basically a small batch of scripts and code that helps you do a specific task) to interview you about a thing you want to be able to do while showing you how a skill works. I decided to create a skill that you could use across coding agents that was called an Accomplishment Companion. This skill would interview you about your accomplishments (work related or not) and help you assemble those into an exportable document you can use to help rewrite a resume, put in your workspace, or just have it saved on your computer when you are feeling down.
I’ve had to deal with a really rough job market over the last 3 years and it’s been tough on my psyche (and my wallet). For most of my career, I’ve kept an “accomplishments” document at my job to capture screenshots and such of my wins. The goal is to use this around promotion time, but it also helps to have when I feel like I am not “winning” at my job. I’ve come to the realization that I am far from alone in these feelings (even if I feel like I am), so I might as well share some things that I think can help others during this unprecedented (really) time.
You can find the skill if you want to try it yourself here: https://devpost.com/software/job-emotional-support-tool
The Github repo (where the code actually lives) is here: https://github.com/joesterne/accomplishments-companion
You can download a copy of it and plug it into the AI tool of your choice (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) and use it to generate your own doc!
Next up: A VR game to deal with the feelings around sudden job loss and a challenging job market. It’s also for a hackathon, but I plan to publish it after I’ve submitted it because it’s very useful.
